Children playing outside and discovering the world is so important to help develop a love for nature. I want my children to love the outdoors, how about you? Unfortunately, most kids today prefer playing indoors on a screen than playing outside. We have to let kids experience unstructured play outside and discover the world around them to develop a life-long relationship with nature.
In an effort to get kids outside experiencing nature, Nature’s Path EnviroKidz launched, a hands-on, exploration-based activity that harnesses kids’ natural curiosity and sense of discovery. While Pokémon Go has been successful in getting kids walking around outside, this program gets them interacting with nature and truly experiencing the outdoors.
Ecokeepers blends a traditional activity passport for kids to fill-in with a modern-day treasure hunt that uses GPS on smartphones to find hidden caches. Free to schools and camps, it complements science and physical education curriculum by blending tactical hands-on discovery with geocaching. Parents can also download the Ecokeepers explorer guide and resources. The geocache app can be downloaded free from geocaching.com or on your phone’s app store link.

My boys loved our geocaching adventure with the ecokeepers kit! We only found a few caches but they were able to fill out a lot of their 12-page Explorer Guides! I strongly encourage you to use geocache as a family and download the free electronic version of the ecokeeper explorer guide with parent support materials.
After all the walking around my boys were happy to sit down to fill out their Ecokeepers Guides and have a drink and snack. When you go geocaching be sure to bring bottles of water to stay hydrated and a snack, like Nature’s Path EnviroKidz bars!
