Free Printable Scientist Badge:
I designed an official looking Scientist badge with help from my son. I printed, cut out and taped it to an old work badge (you can find badge holders & clips at most stores or Amazon). We loved the way the badge turned out! I am sharing this badge with you too!
Some options for the badge is print a picture of your child to put over the fingerprint. Also, you can either write in your child’s name or use an editing program to type in their name. To type you will need to save the file and open it in an editing program. PicMonkey is a great option, it’s a free online editing program and is really easy to use! Just open blank sign file and add your text to the badge.
This badge would be great for your DIY Mad Scientist costume for Halloween, dress-up play or for a Scientist Themed party. I think these badges would make a great party favor! I have shared printables with 9 badges on the page (for parties) Level 5 – Level 10 are available.

The only things I purchased was a lab coat found at the thrift store for $0.50, fake mustache and some plastic test tubes on Amazon for $5.
DIY Mad Scientist Costume – What you need:
- slacks/pants
- button up dress shirt
- bow tie
- safety goggles
- lab coat
- hair gel for crazy hairdo
- scientist badge (free printable below)
- badge holder and clip
- glasses (optional)
- fake mustache (optional)
- charcoal dust (optional)
- test tubes or beakers (optional)
How we put our DIY Mad Scientist Costume together:
My son already had black slacks and a grey button up shirt. Little brother owned a bow tie that fit him. He already owned fake glasses but if you don’t I suggest getting some 3-d glasses and removing their lenses. I usually keep our 3-D glasses when we go to the movies. Safety goggles came from grandpa’s work shop. The lab coat size small was found at thrift store. If you can’t find a lab coat at your thrift store you can make one from an adult white button up shirt. Fake mustache was found at the grocery store and plastic test tubes from Amazon.
I filled the test tubes with colored water. We opted for an explosion went off look and used our activated charcoal capsules; I opened the capsules and smudged it all over his face. You could use black face paint instead but the the charcoal dust looks more authentic, in my opinion.
Free Printable Scientist Badge:

I created these zombie cupcake toppers for The Walking Dead season 5 premiere viewing party. TWD premier was AWESOME if you do not watch this show you really should start! Everyone at the party loved the zombie brain cupcakes and requested more zombie themed food in the future.
I paired my cupcake toppers with my homemade gluten-free chocolate cupcakes with store bought vanilla icing. I added 1 drop of red food coloring to the white icing for the perfect shade of brain pink. Use an icing tip to make squiggly lines for the brain folds. Next time I make these I will use a red jelly to make a nice oozy filling for the middle.
Perfect for any zombie-themed party and for Halloween! Just download, print, cut and attach to a toothpick. I used double-sided tape to attach toppers to toothpicks.

Last week I shared my cute Halloween lollipop covers, and this week I went a little bit scarier! Being a huge fan of The Walking Dead, I have watched the show from the beginning and have read all the comics too, you know I had to have a zombie Halloween treat! These zombie images are just the right amount of scary, so they are appropriate for younger kids but are perfect for older kids and adults!

I suggest printing on card stock paper so it is thicker. For the baby shower I just set the door prize tickets on the entrance table with a basket to put them in. Let the mommy to be draw one name or several names throughout the party, depending on how many prizes you have to give out.

My son’s 7th birthday party was so much fun! We had it at a martial arts academy and the kids got to be ninjas for 2 hours and bonus they kept the kids entertained the entire time! I had several DIY crafts for this party! I really loved how this party turned out and all the guest loved the food and decorations!
I made so many things I will be posting as a series to share all the projects I did! But here is list of everything I will be sharing!
DIY Party List:
- invitations

Lego Ninjago Invitations:
I made this invite to print 2 per page ( I use greeting card/ card stock paper). I have photoshop so I added different ninja fonts to the invite but you can add text by using the free version of PicMonkey and use the Shojumaru Font.

Save picture as jpg or pdf file and open in a editor program to add text.
Lego Ninjago Party Signs:
I made 4 of these party signs. I printed them on card stock paper, then cut and hot glued onto a skewer (toothpicks work too). I like to use balloon weights to stick the signs in to. You can add helium balloons if you want. I did not this time.
I used PicMonkey to make the signs. You will select: Design- square. Add your Shojumaru Font. You can do one with Age and one with “Happy Birthday NAME”. I also selected the Frame on the sidebar to add add a simple edge. I did 20 thickness black and a 15 thickness red for the frame.
Large Lego Blocks Decorations:
You will need rectangle boxes, solid colored wrapping paper, toilet paper or paper towel rolls, scissors, tape and glue or hot glue gun.
Wrap rectangle box in colored wrapping paper. I wanted to use 3 different colors but Dollar General only had Yellow. I think it still looked awesome! I used tissue paper boxes but Capri Sun boxes work great too.
Cut your paper towel roll to be about 2-2 1/2 inches high. I only did 3 boxes so I needed 10 of these. 6 for top and 2 each for bottom boxes.
Wrap the 2 inch pieces as best as you can. You can fold wrapping paper in side the tubes bottom edge, that seemed to help some. Mine were not perfect circles, but it still looked great!
You will then attach 2 inch pieces to boxes. I used a hot glue gun and it worked great because none of my top pieces came off.
I did not measure when I glued them down I just eyed it to make it even. If you are a crazy perfectionist then measure away and make those legos perfect!

We just gave my younger sister an Owl Themed Baby Shower. She is decorating her nursery with the Happi Tree Theme, and that’s what we used for her shower. It turned out so cute! This will be a series over the next couple weeks featuring all the decorations, diy ideas, and products used!
First I found her invitations on Etsy. I am pretty computer savvy so I went with a You Print version, but this particular shop,BDesigns4You, offers a printed option too.
Whimsey Owl Whimsical Girl Baby Shower Invitation –
We have a huge family and we planned on having 60-80 guest. We opted to rent the amenity center in my Home Owners Association. I highly recommend renting a hall or amenity center if you plan on having 50 or more guest. It makes it so much easier for parking and just party room in general.
Entry Table Decorations:
We had a Personalized Whimsey Owl Girl Baby Shower Guest List for guest to sign in and guess how many M&Ms were in the bottle.
We used a bird cage my sister owned and decorated it with ribbon, decorative paper cut into a circle with an owl sticker, and pink paper crinkle shreds inside the cage.
We had a cute basket to hold Door Prize tickets. I made the Door Prize Tickets myself.

Also on the entry table we had one of the gifts from our parents and us siblings, the cloth diaper cake! I made this by rolling cloth diapers, putting rubber band around each roll, then a large rubber band around each section. I taped a ribbon above the rubber bands, added stickers, and topped it with a wash cloth Owl!
I got the matching stickers from BDesigns4You. I used these Personalized Whimsey Owl Girl Baby Shower Stickers – Owl & friends on several decorations.

We had a DIY Hulk Party for my little man this year. I bought him this awesome hulk shirt from Amazon in a 3 pack fruit of the loom Marvel Heros pack. It came with a Spiderman shirt and a Wolverine shirt. The shirt has more of an under shirt feel so I layered it under a plaid shirt. He looked so cute!
I used toys and books we already owned for decorations. I made this banner from construction paper cut into triangles, hole punched, and put on balloon string. My 6 year old and I decorated them with markers. My boy drew some awesome Hulks! I also love the Hulk fist he added to the #3…he came up with that all on his own!
I made cupcakes with added green food color to the cake mix and the frosting. I also made cupcake toppers tapped to toothpicks. I used the toppers in the centerpiece decorations too.

If you have read my other party post, then you know I love me some cookie cake. I have one at pretty much every party I plan!
I put my son’s hulk toy on as a decoration. The cake icing got a little messed up during transportation, but it looked like the Hulk had been smashing it already. Totally made it work!
For the party favor bags I used colored cardstock paper. I hand wrote, “Thanks for Making Evan’s 3rd Birthday a Smash” and added Hulk stickers to each one. I stapled them to filled plastic lunch baggies. Super simple and super cheap!
My son’s favorite gift was the Hulk hooded jacket. It was so freakin’ cool with it’s mesh mask built in!

I’m sharing my oldest son’s 5th Birthday Star Wars Party!
I purchased both my boys a Star Wars costume. It was 8 months before Halloween so I figured I would definitely get my moneys worth out of these costumes!
I served hamburgers, fruit tray, chex mix party mix, chips, and drinks. Pretty standard party food, but I wanted to have those cute Star Wars Food Labels. We had Hans Burgers, Jedi Mix, Yoda Soda, and a Wookie Cookie!
I made these fun labels. You can print and use them at your next Star Wars Party!

I used these labels to make centerpieces. Just tape them to a toothpick and place inside a balloon weight.
For the cakes I bought them from the grocery store. We had them write Wookie Cookie on it and placed one of my son’s toy Chewbacca on it! I love Cookie Cakes and have them at every party!
My father in law and brother in law were both just as excited about the Star Wars theme party! They actually volunteered and paid to rent costumes! They are awesome and I didn’t ask how much they cost to rent. I’m guessing $50-$75. I had the Star Wars theme music playing when they made their entrance!
We had so much fun playing with the Darth Vader and Chewbacca mask!
For party favors I bought Star Wars Coloring books and other Star Wars merchandise from the dollar store and dollar bins from Target. I also printed and cut out these free mask from http://starwarsblog.starwars.com! No longer on there but you can get them here now Geek Mom Mashup.
The party was a huge success and lots of fun!
